Custom Task Lists & Checklists

Make a checklist for anything — groceries, projects, packing, events. Reusable, editable lists that live alongside your daily tasks, free on any device.

What are Task Lists?

The “Lists” section (under the 📝 Lists tab, fourth icon in the bottom navigation) is a flexible checklist maker. Unlike Daily Tasks, lists aren't tied to a date — each list is a named, reusable collection of items you can manage anytime.

One list per topic, as many items as you need:

🛒 Grocery lists
🧳 Packing lists
🏗️ Project checklists
🎉 Event planning
🎬 Movies to watch
🏠 Weekend chores

Daily Tasks vs. Task Lists — which one?

📋 Daily TasksThings to do on a specific day — “Call the doctor,” “Submit report by Friday.” Date-based, with email reminders.
📝 Task ListsThings grouped by topic, not date — “Grocery List,” “Trip to Goa.” Reusable and always available.

Creating Your First List

  1. Log in to RytePad and click the 📝 Lists tab.
  2. In the “Add a List Title” box, type a short, descriptive name (e.g., “Grocery List” or “Weekend Chores”) — under 32 characters, no semicolons (;) or line breaks.
  3. Click Add List — a green “List added. Select below.” message confirms it.
Note: List names must be unique (case-insensitive). Free users can create up to 20 lists.

Opening a List

  1. In the “Search & Select Lists…” box, your new list pops up automatically — or start typing a name to filter, or click into the box to see all lists (newest first).
  2. Click a list name to open it. You'll see the list title, an “Add a Task to this List” input, Pending ⌛ and Completed ✅ sections, plus creation/update dates.
Tip: Use “Clear Selection” to close the current list and return to the overview.

Adding & Managing Items

  1. With a list open, type an item in the “Add a Task to this List” input (e.g., “Buy milk” — up to 500 characters).
  2. Click Add Task — it appears under Pending Tasks ⌛ with icons: 🕒 (pending), ✏️ (edit), ❌ (delete), ✓ (complete).
  3. Repeat for every item — “Apples,” “Bread,” “Cheese”…
  • Edit: Hover over a pending item and click ✏️. Change the text, then “Save” (or “Cancel”).
  • Complete: Click ✓ — the item moves to Completed ✅.
  • Restore: Click ↩️ on a completed item to send it back to Pending — perfect for reusing a grocery list every week.
  • Delete: Click ❌ and confirm in the popup.
Tip: Completed items sort by completion time, newest first. To reuse a list, just restore its items to Pending instead of retyping them.

Renaming or Deleting a List

  • Rename: Next to the list title, click Rename List. Edit the name (same rules: under 32 characters, no semicolons), then “Save.”
  • Delete: At the bottom of the open list, click Delete List and confirm — this removes the list and all its items.
Warning: Deleted lists are permanent and can't be recovered.

Searching Across All Lists

Can't remember which list “milk” is on? Search everything at once:

  1. Open the 🔍 Search tab (top navigation) and go to the “Search Lists” sub-tab.
  2. Enter a search term (e.g., “milk”) and click Search.
  3. Results show matching items from all lists, grouped by list name and separated into Pending and Completed. Use “Clear” to reset.
Note: List search is text-based — no date filters (lists aren't tied to dates).
