A daily to-do list that plans every day, not just today

25 tasks a day on the free plan · unlimited on Pro

Each day in RytePad has its own list. Write today's, plan tomorrow's, look back at last week's, and on Pro let unfinished tasks follow you to the next day.

RytePad on a phone

Most to-do apps keep one long list that only ever grows. RytePad's daily tasks are tied to dates instead: a list for Monday, a list for Tuesday, a list for the 14th of next month. You decide what belongs to each day, and each day starts with a clear picture of what matters.

Everything you'd expect is there: add, complete, edit, restore and delete, a star for the tasks that matter most, a Rearrange mode for your own order, a progress line and a streak to keep you going. Email reminders and automatic carry-over (Pro) take care of the follow-through. To build a routine around the list, see the daily planner.

How it works

Four things, and you know the whole tool

1

Pick a day

Use the arrows next to the date, or open the calendar and jump to any date, past or future. Dots mark days that already have tasks.

2

Add tasks

Type into the box and press Enter. A task can be 500 characters (1,000 on Pro). Free accounts can add 25 a day; from 70% of that, a small line under the box shows where you are.

3

Tick things off

Click the circle and the task moves to Completed, the progress line fills, and the day counts towards your streak. Completed tasks stay editable and can be restored.

4

Star, edit, rearrange, delete

The star marks a task as important and gives it a coloured edge. The pencil edits in place, Rearrange lets you drag the list into order, the arrow restores a completed task, and the bin deletes it after a confirmation.

What you can do with daily tasks

  • Plan ahead. Add tasks to any future date and they'll be waiting when the day arrives, with an optional email that morning.
  • See your progress. "4 of 6 done" above the list, and a day streak that lights up with the first completed task of the day.
  • Mark what matters. A star on a task gives it a coloured edge so it stands out at a glance. The mark stays when you complete it.
  • Put it in your order. Rearrange, at the top-right of the list, lets you drag tasks into the order you want; the order is saved.
  • Get reminded by email. A digest of what is still open at 6:30 PM, and a heads-up at 6:30 AM on the day of a task you added in advance. Both optional, both in your own time zone.
  • Carry over what is left. Pro At midnight in your time zone, pending tasks are copied to the next day with a D2|: prefix, D3|: the day after, for up to ten days.
  • Find any task again. Search by a word, a date range or both, then click the result to open that day.
  • Use it anywhere. The same list on your phone, tablet and computer, in light or dark mode. On a phone, a tap on a task shows when you added or finished it.

Ways people use it

Keep it to three to fiveA list you can finish is a list you'll come back to. Put the rest on another day's list on purpose.
Start with a verb"Call the dentist" gets done; "dentist" gets stared at.
Plan tomorrow tonightTwo minutes in the evening means you start the morning already knowing what is first.
Star the one that mattersOne starred task per day is a decision; five is a list again.
Let the streak work for youOne completed task keeps it alive. On a bad day, make that one task tiny.
Use checklists for the restGroceries and packing lists aren't tasks for a date. Keep them in Checklists and leave the daily list for the day.
Questions

Questions about daily tasks

Is there a limit on tasks?

Free accounts can add 25 tasks a day; Pro has no limit. A task can be 500 characters on the free plan and 1,000 on Pro. Limits only apply to adding: nothing you have written is deleted or hidden when you reach one.

Can I add tasks for next month?

Yes. Open the calendar, pick any date and add tasks there. They stay on that day until you complete or delete them, and the upcoming-task email can remind you that morning.

What happens to tasks I don't finish?

They stay on their day. On Pro you can switch on Carry over tasks, which copies pending tasks to the next day at midnight in your time zone with a D2|: prefix, for up to ten days.

Can I change the order of my tasks?

Yes. Click Rearrange at the top-right of the To do list, drag the rows into place and click Save. The order is kept for that day.

Can I undo completing a task?

Yes. In the Completed box, the arrow button restores a task to the To do list, star and all.
